Natural archives, such as sediment records and remains of organisms therein, provide important information about past climate variability and life conditions. The last and ongoing period of the geologic time scale, the Quaternary, is characterised by large-scale climate perturbations induced by natural forcing and, most recently, humanity. Ever since their scientific implementation, stable isotope analyses play an important role in detecting and deciphering Quaternary climates and environments.

My main research activities focus on climate and ecosystem changes during the last glacial-interglacial cycles, including the Holocene and Anthropocene. I investigate sediments and organism remains with a methodological focus on stable isotopes and geochemistry. As a prerequisite for a general understanding of past and present systems, I am interested in stable isotope applications in various disciplines including ecology, geoarchaeology, and climatology.
